The House of the Nobleman - The Return
‘Following on from the success of last year’s ‘The House of the Nobleman’ art exhibition, curator Victoria Golembiovskaya is pleased to announce her second installment in the series, ‘The Return’, opening 14th-23rd October 2011 at Boswall House, a magnificent 15,000sqft Grade I listed Regency mansion at 2 Cornwall Terrace, overlooking Regent’s Park and the nearby activity of Frieze Art Fair.
One of the largest and most significant privately sponsored art exhibitions held during the Frieze Art Fair, ‘The Return’ explores ideas of the sacred in art, design and contemporary thought, exhibiting rare and previously unseen works from the most prestigious international collections alongside today’s most notable artists and designers. Francis Bacon, Salvador Dali, Zaha Hadid, Damien Hirst, Claude Monet and Yves Klein are just a few amongst the many represented.

SMAC Art Gallery is proud to present Collection 13, an exhibition of new acquisitions at their new Cape Town gallery. The collection comprises recent and older work by 20 leading artists selected by the gallery on the basis of past association and future collaboration. In October/November 2010 Whitney McVeigh spent six weeks working at Nirox Foundation in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, South Africa. The collaboration programme offers early career South African artists the opportunity to interact closely with the principal resident artist, to enhance and expand the creative process. This interaction gives the principal resident proximity to the local scene. See Nirox 2010.
In March 2011 SMAC Gallery will launch a new space in Cape Town and will hold a solo show of Whitney McVeigh's work made at the Nirox Foundation. Nirox and SMAC Gallery will also open the Johannesburg exhibition of Whitney McVeigh's work (in March). The exhibitions will be accompanied by a catalogue with an essay by Sean O'Toole and a forward by Gus Casely-Hayford.
